| The City of Gallup
is a statutory municipality under New Mexico law which has
opted to have home rule status. City government is of the
county/manager form with an elected Mayor and four elected City
Councilors. The chief administrative officer is the City
Manager.

Gallup is the county seat of McKinley County. Elected county
officials include 3 County Commissioners, County Clerk, County
Treasurer, County Assessor, County Sheriff, Probate Judge, 5
State Representatives and 3 State Senators.

| Law Enforcement |
County-McKinley County Sheriff’s Department has 35
full-time
officers and 12 support staff members.
City-Gallup Police Department has 57 full-time sworn officers
and 35 support staff members.

| Fire Protection |
|
Gallup Fire Department has 42 full-time firemen and one
secretary. The ISO rating for Gallup is 6. McKinley County is
served by 200 volunteers at 17 stations and 2 sub-stations.
Thirty of these volunteers have EMT B-Level training.

| Recreational Facilities |
| Gallup has 23 public parks, two public swimming pools, 12
tennis courts and one 18 hole golf course. The Gallup
Recreational Center has a weight room, an indoor archery area,
and programs which serve all ages. Special groups that use the
Center range for the Junior Wrestling Association to the Quilter’s
Club.
Completed in 1994, the Gallup Sports Complex is a cluster of
4 fields that are used for Little League, Men’s/Woman’s
Softball, Soccer games, and other community events.
